Z…Missing Link?

Rannoch - October 19, 2009

z
In November we will have a Z Health workshop here in Edinburgh (using kettlebells and the weapon of choice but the techniques are transferable whatever the activity) presented by Fellow CTK, RKC and all round KB bad ass Dr Mc Schraefel. (Please note, it is M…C…Schraefel, but she may answer to McSchraefel whilst in Scotland)

MC, with multiple certifications in Z Health, has done more to clearly explain the benefits than anyone I know. For those still sitting on the fence, this is a opportunity to find out what all the fuss is about. I am a great advocate of mobility and movement practice so I am excited at the prospect of adding to the “toy box”.
For anyone on the business of movement (and I reckon that’s all of us) this is a tremendous opportunity.
You can read about Mc’s own Zhealth experience here
And see an example here
Here’s an overview of what’s on offer (Please note – KBS workshop participants will recieve a 10% discount on booking)
Date: November  29th, Sunday.
At Energy Gym,BRFC, Colinton Road
Edinburgh EH14 1AS

10am and 4pm. (Registration starts at 9.30)

£149.00*

(*£134.00 for KBS Participants)

This workshop is essential for anyone interested in fine tuning their movement skills.

The workshop is suitable for beginner and veterans who will benefit from fine tuning of technique and the integration of Z-Health into your practice.

You know about kettlebells and the array of benefits you can get from them; the unstoppable cardiovascular conditioning from intense sessions of kettlebell snatches, strength and stability from the kettlebell getup but that’s really one level of fitness as an element is still missing.

The missing link is your nervous system; the master and commander of your very being – everything, and I mean everything you do, you experience, and you achieve stems from your nervous system.

Awareness.

Most of us when we work out think about what moves we’re going to do, whether it’s ride a bike or press a weight, and then we do that. If we learn any technique behind this, we may think about stance width or grip or breathing. All good.

So while we think about what our limbs are doing, and maybe what muscles we’re working, we don’t think too much about what controls those muscles and moves those joints. We don’t think too much about the one part of ourselves that’s always on, and never sleeps: our nervous system.

Amazingly, it’s our nervous system that determines if we’re going to move at all. It’s our nervous system that controls the signals that say we can’t pick up the groceries, but in the right circumstances we can lift a car off an injured child. It’s the nervous system that determines when we can do the splits (we call can when we’re unconscious; what’s the difference when we’re awake?)

Here’s a quick example: if you press a weight that’s challenging for you, try it once first with your eyes looking down the whole time; then try the same lift with your eyes looking way up the whole time – Note – not your head; just your eyes. Did you notice a difference? Did one feel easier than the other?

It’s in putting together a few simple things like eye movement to work with larger movements that cummulatively have a HUGE effect on performance.

So in this workshop, we’ll learn techniques based in Z-Health neuralplasticity training to improve your movement, enhance your performance and improve your quality of life.

To get two values for the price of one, we’re going to base the program around improving your kettlebell practice, whether your a beginner who’s just started with kettlebells, or your an experienced swinger who wants to get their efforts to the next level – maybe you have hit a plateau in a press, or have a shoulder issue that’s been holding you back. Or maybe you’ve been told you have “tight hip flexors” and your mobility is bugging you.

Whatever the case, this course will have something for you: some new ideas; definitely a lot of immeidately usable techniques we’ll practice with kettlebells, but that you can apply to any physical endeavor.

In the workshop we’ll cover
Z-Health Drills for Neuroplasticity

We’ll also look at their role
- in nervous system communication
- relative to stretching
- relative to balance/stability training
- relative to manual therapy for rehab

so that you’ll have a variety of ways to choose how and where you want to plug them into your practice. Everything we discuss we’ll test out and practice.

Z-Health and Kettlebells

We’re then going to combine basic kettlebell moves with key z-health drills to help refine and enhance your practice right on the spot.

We’ll look at specific techniques like bone ryhtmn to improve movement efficiency in all your movements whether swings or pushups.

We’ll also introduce balance and vision progressions you can use to improve your general athleticism (if you’re one of those folks who feels like a bit of a goof when moving, this stuff is especially for us)

We’ll also look at how you can test if a move you’re doing, the way you’re doing it, is working for you, and be able to evaluate the effectiveness of any changes you make.

Wrap Up

By the end of this workshop, you’ll have two great things to take home with you:
+ excellent kettelbell fundamentals and how to put them to work
+ practical neural-optimized drills to improve and enhance the effectiveness of every rep you make.

You’ll go home knowing and experiencing how Awareness of the nervous system and being able to work with it deliberately is a smart, effective, efficient and pretty-near effortless way to improve your performance immediately.

All kettlebells for training will be supplied on the day. Workshop includes a comprehensive manual and refreshments.
