Walking the walk…

Rannoch - September 27, 2007

Sometimes there is a schism between what people say and what people do. There’s no doubt in my mind that a great coach does not have to be a great athlete. But for the average trainer working with the average client this simply cannot be the case. If the object of the exercise (literally) is to produce healthy, able, resilient individuals then is it’s a case of “physician heal thyself”. We are all walking laborotories, our own experiment in human potential. We can rise to the challenge or simply be “voyuers”.
I’m nursing a bad back this week. I could complain, but you know what? I’ve not been in such good shape for ten years. This current bump in the road can only slow me down for so long. I have an old injury that rears it’s ugly head every so often but I’ve never been better equiped to deal with it.
Today is mobility, slow and simple…but not easy!
On a seperate note I emailed my pal Lou Schuler with my thoughts on Scotlands new ranking as the second most obese country in the developed world. Lou has a great blog which is incisive and funny. (Not many people can do both when writing about fitness) You can check him out here…

    Rannoch,

I am well as is my wife! Things in La Jolla are great (how could they not be in such a beautiful place) but more importantly we are expecting our first child (daughter) in a couple of months, so we are very excited to say the least!

Life is changing for us as it obviously has for you and your family. I will try and do the same as you do with your children and lead by example. For sure I will be asking you for fatherly advice in the years to come :)

Our fat loss program continues to grow and so far we have been pleaseantly surprised with its success. Thank you for asking.

I’ll be checking in and will link you on my blog ASAP!

    Be well!

    Franz

Franz! How are you? How are things in La Jolla?

Thanks for your kind words. It never really crosses my mind that anyone looks at this blog, I really should update it more often! I’ve been fortunate enough to train with numerous people who embodied the philosophy they promoted. I’ve also seen many ,especially within the martial arts community who do little to promote it by example. I have three children so I have no excuse but to try and lead by example. Perhaps it’s the only way to lead.

How are things going with the Fat Loss Guide? I see you products arer available through my friends here at London Kettlebells.

This is great! I’ve always thought that a trainer has to be in the process of focused training and mindful living in order to really help people. I also have made it a habit to never teach clients something I myself have not mastered.

    Nice post!
